I grew up in the northeast of the US, which I still hold dear despite having traded coasts (yes, I miss the winters).
In school, I was a terrible math student but read anything and everything you could throw at me. Those early experiences instilled a love of both literature and the far away places they often shared. Subsequently, I spent a lot of time traveling around the world before, during and after college (which I eventually got around to finishing).
After escaping the halls of higher education with my dignity more or less intact, I took the fancy piece of paper they gave me and got a job in Washington, DC as a technical/proposal writer. During this time, I freelanced for a variety of outfits, which you can learn more about here.
Before long, my love of wild places demanded that I flee for less concrete pasture. I became a teacher, eventually getting a Master's degree in Literacy. For over a decade, I taught ELA to elementary children, willing them to see that writing isn't always a chore and why there is only one way to spell "potato."
Despite loving my gig as a teacher, a strange thing started to happen: All the time I spent talking about writing with my kiddos reminded me that it's fun to actually do it myself every now and again. So, I dusted off my chops and created this website to help show some of my prior work and create something new.
